The Organ and Tissue Authority is committed to upholding the standards outlined in the Commonwealth Child Safe Framework (CCSF) to create and maintain behaviours and practices that are safe for children.
Employees of the Organ and Tissue Authority do not engage in child-related work as part of their standard duties, however on occasion, may interact with children as part of organ and tissue donation community awareness activities.
A risk assessment is undertaken (at least) annually to evaluate the risks to child safety. Our interaction with children is minimal and infrequent, resulting in a rating of low for child safety risks. Actions to be taken during the 2025-26 reporting period to strengthen our commitment to child safety include:
- Improving staff awareness and understanding of their obligations through the development of the OTA’s Child Safe Policy.
- Including child safe clauses in grants or procurement documents for funded third parties, where required
- Ensuring relevant staff complete required training and obtain or maintain relevant checks, as applicable.
Employees are not required to maintain Working with Children checks, however, any employees who may interact with children on a rare occasion are required to complete a Child Safety and Wellbeing course which provides staff with an understanding of their obligations under the Commonwealth Child Safe Framework.
During the reporting period (1 July 2024 to 30 June 2025), the OTA was fully compliant with the Commonwealth Child Safe Framework.
