The CEO is the Accountable Authority under the Public Governance, Performance and Accountability Act 2013 (PGPA Act) and is responsible for the overall governance of the OTA.
The OTA welcomed Helen Grinbergs as the new CEO of the Australian Organ and Tissue Donation and Transplantation Authority in October 2026.
With a career spanning heritage conservation, climate change, aged care and public health, Helen has led some of the Australian Government's most significant reform agendas, including aged care reforms following the Royal Commission. She has held senior leadership roles in international and domestic policy, strategy and coordination, program development and delivery, regulatory compliance, agency establishment, governance, and system and organisational reform.
Most recently, Helen led work to establish the Australian Centre for Disease Control, helping to create a new national institution focused on delivering trusted, timely health advice and improving health outcomes for Australians.
Beginning her career as an archaeologist before discovering a passion for policy, Helen brings a practical, outcomes-focused leadership style centred on collaboration, transparency and solving complex problems. She is passionate about improving health and wellbeing, particularly for vulnerable populations, and in her spare time enjoys skiing, theatre and following the exploits of her son's punk band.
