  • Overview

    • In 2025, 82% of families agreed to donation when their family member was registered on the Australian Organ Donor Register (AODR).
    • Consent for donation was given in 63% of cases when the family knew if their family member wanted to be a donor.
    • Only 38% of families agreed to donation when their family member was not registered, and the family was unaware if they wanted to be a donor.
    • There are close to 8 million people registered on the AODR. This is 35% of the eligible Australian population (aged 16 or over).

    While 4 in 5 Australians support organ and tissue donation, only around 1 in 3 (35%) are registered to be a donor on the Australian Organ Donor Register (AODR).

It doesn’t matter how old you are, your medical history, your lifestyle, what country you’re from or how healthy you are — you can still register as an organ and tissue donor.
