Applications are now open for up to $400,000 (GST exclusive) in funding for community-based initiatives in 2024.
Since 2009, we have provided over $6 million in community grants to run projects that encourage more Australians and their families to talk about organ and tissue donation and register to donate. We know that increasing awareness about donation results in more people saying ‘yes’ to donation.
Culturally and Linguistically Diverse (CALD) communities are a critical audience group for the Organ and Tissue Authority’s National Program. One in three of us were born overseas, so communicating clearly to multicultural communities should be a key priority when developing and delivering government messaging. And more than one in five Australians speak a language other than English at home – these Australians deserve our focus.
With Mandarin, Arabic, Vietnamese and Cantonese speakers, Hindis and Muslims, and the diverse population that makes Australia a national community with hundreds of languages and religions, cultural practices and traditions in place, we will be offering grants across two categories:
- Digital content and resources
Create digital content and resources that builds awareness about organ and tissue donation for CALD communities, multicultural and faith groups.
- DonateLife Week 2024 events/activities
Run a community event/activity in support DonateLife Week 2024 for CALD communities, multicultural and faith groups (Sunday 28 July to Sunday 4 August).
In the past, successful projects delivered by community partners have included:
- Targeted digital advertising campaigns
- Educational resources for secondary school students
- Awareness days to get the community talking about organ and tissue donation
- Video resources and distribution strategies for specific cultural groups

We look forward to assessing your applications and working with our 2024 community partners to raise awareness about organ and tissue donation.
