Illiana became an organ donor

It’s an honour to be her mum and know that 5 people carry a part of her. That’s very special.

Like many 17-year-olds, Illiana loved her phone and making TikTok videos – 600 in total. She also enjoyed spending time with friends, visiting the beach and cheering on her twin brother at footy games.

‘She was my ray of sunshine,’ mum Teresa said. ‘Illiana loved everyone and always wanted to help. She was fun-loving, adventurous and had an infectious laugh. She lit up every room she walked into.’

Tragically in 2023, Illiana was seriously injured in a car accident. She suffered a severe brain injury and couldn’t be saved.

When doctors asked about organ donation, the family didn’t hesitate.

‘There wasn’t much of a conversation. It was a simple yes from all of us,’ Teresa said. ‘We knew Illiana would want to help others. That’s just who she was - caring, loving and generous.’

Despite the heartbreak, Illiana’s family found comfort in knowing she helped others. Illiana became an organ donor and saved the lives of 5 people.

Teresa says she’s proud of her daughter’s legacy.

‘It’s hard to describe how it feels as there are a lot of mixed emotions. But to me, and to many in our family, Illiana is a true hero. It’s an honour to be her mum and know that 5 people carry a part of her. That’s very special.’
