David had a corneal transplant

Before my transplant, I’d never thought about organ donation. Now I’ve signed up — because organ and tissue donation really can change lives for the better.

David is incredibly thankful — not just for his growing family, but for the gift of sight that lets him enjoy every moment with them.

In 2001, David was diagnosed with a serious eye condition called keratoconus. Over 17 years, his vision gradually worsened. He had trouble seeing clearly, couldn’t judge distances well, and even a small bump could have caused his eye to rupture. Eventually, a corneal transplant was the only option.

The transplant was life-changing. David has been able to return to the soccer field, enjoying games with friends without fear of serious injury. He cherishes being able to admire his son Rocco’s colourful art masterpieces. And soon, he will be able to return the gaze of his newborn daughter - a gift beyond measure for any dad.

‘I’m so grateful for the quality of life my transplant has given me. It’s exceeded all my expectations,’ said David.

Reflecting on his experience, David adds, ‘Before my transplant, I’d never thought about organ donation. Now I’ve signed up — because organ and tissue donation really can change lives for the better.

‘I believe in giving back to your community. To donate your organs or tissues after you’re gone to someone in need is a life-changing way of doing this.’
