WA high school students have been asked to "step into the minds" of someone who is waiting and wishing for a second chance at life - just like some 1300 Australians now listed on the organ transplant surgery waiting list.

The Writing for Life young writer’s micro-fiction competition was launched back in July during DonateLife Week; encouraging Western Australian school children from grades 7-12 to participate.

DonateLife WA received 187 entries and 27 students have been shortlisted as finalists and the winners will be announced at the prize-giving ceremony on Tuesday 14th November at the Perth City Library.

In recognition of Thankyou Day on Sunday 19th November - a national day to acknowledge all Australians who make organ and tissue donation possible, the Honourable Samantha Rowe MLC, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister for Education and Training and Member for East Metropolitan Region, will officially open the event and award the prizes to the winners of each age category.
