Minister Welcomes Back David Gough from his 5,000 km Bike Ride

ACT Health Minister, Ms Katy Gallagher MLA welcomed back David Gough on 25 February and helped launch the DonateLife Book of Life, in which his daughter Melody's story is featured. David rode over 5,000 km through the ACT, NSW and Victoria after leaving Canberra on 4 February from the National Gallery of Australia to raise awareness about organ and tissue donation and in memory of his daughter.

Melody Gough was on the threshold of a promising career as a photo-media Assistant Curator at the National Gallery of Australia in Canberra when her life was tragically cut short, becoming the first multi organ donor in the ACT in 2010.With a record number of ten multi-organ donations in Canberra last year the Minister reminded people that, 'Any day is a good day to talk about organ and tissue donation – especially this week, because it’s DonateLife Week'.

The DonateLife Book of Life: A collection of life-saving and life-changing stories from people touched by organ and tissue donation contained 48 stories when launched, five from the Canberra region includes that of Melody Gough. Other successful events during the week with the DonateLife Book of Life on display were the DonateLife Walk attended by 1,800 people around Lake Burly Griffin, the Heart to Heart Hospital Ball and the ACT Chief Minister’s Awards for Organ and Tissue Donation Awareness.

The DonateLife Walk and the Chief Minister's Awards were organised by Gift of Life through a community awareness grant provided by the Organ and Tissue Authority.
