State Medical Director - Dr Robert Herkes
Dr Robert Herkes heads the NSW DonateLife team with an extensive background in intensive care. He is the Co-Chair of the NSW Critical Care Taskforce, and has spent the last ten years in liaison with NSW Health over development of intensive care within NSW.
He is also the Director of Intensive Care at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital, one of the major quaternary intensive care services within NSW, specialising in liver transplantation.
Dr Herkes participated as an active delegate during the collaborative process and returns to a leadership role in organ and tissue donation keen to continue the improvements achieved by the Authority within NSW.
Nurse Manager NSW - Ms Juliana Celcer
Ms Juliana Celcer is the NSW Clinical Manager; she oversees the NSW Network of Donation Specialist Nurses, Coordinators and the Donor Family Support Service. Juliana is part of the Executive team providing leadership and direction to support best clinical practice and improvements in organ donation.
Juliana has extensive experience in Intensive Care, Clinical Governance and senior health management. Before joining the organ donation sector, Juliana managed Critical Care Services at Sydney South West Area Health Service establishing an emergency nursing and intensive care collaborative across the service and more recently overseeing the devolvement of the service into two Local Health Districts.
Juliana has always held a keen interest in organ donation and transplantation and was an executive sponsor on the national organ donor collaborative.
DonateLife NSW staff
The team in NSW is comprised of seven expert nursing professionals called Donation Specialist Coordinators (DSCs), as well as an Operations Manager, Business Manager, Strategic Projects Manager, Education Coordinator, Research Officer, Donor Family Support Coordinator, Community Events Coordinator and administrative support staff.
Also integral to DonateLife NSW is the highly skilled team of hospital based organ and tissue donation specialists including 26 Donation Specialist Nurses (DSN's) and 24 Donation Specialist Medical staff (DSM's).
