TSANZ Consensus Statement on Eligibility Criteria and Allocation Protocols

Version 1.1 of the Consensus Statement on Eligibility Criteria and Allocation Protocols (Consensus Statement) was launched by the Parliamentary Secretary for Health and Ageing, the Hon Catherine King MP on 1 July 2011.

The Consensus Statement was developed by TSANZ through funding provided by the Organ and Tissue Authority as part of the implementation of the National Reform Agenda – A World's Best Practice Approach to Organ and Tissue Donation for Transplantation.

Version 1.2 of the Consensus Statement, as endorsed by the TSANZ Council and the Authority's SMD/JWG Committee was released on Wednesday 16 May 2012 and includes the following key amendments:

A: Urgent Heart Listing

  • The removal of a restriction on the number that can be listed in a 12-month period.
  • A revision of the protocol to cover the circumstances where there are simultaneously listed urgent patients.

B: Lung Organ Donor Criteria

  • Donor age raised from 5-65 years to 5-70 years.

C. Response Time for Kidneys on Offer

    • A uniform 60 minutes cut-off time set for a unit to accept or decline a kidney offer from a donor after brain or cardiac death.
