In 2011 the OTA launched the Scholarship in memory of Janette Hall, a South Australian Hospital Senior Nurse who was actively involved and associated with organ and tissue donation for many years.
The Scholarship provides the opportunity for health professionals working in the donation and transplantation sector to attend professional training and education activities both in Australia and overseas.
This year, the OTA invited applicants to propose an activity which would enhance their skills and experience in organ and tissue donation for transplantation and had a clear relevance to implementation of the national reform agenda. The Parliamentary Secretary for Health and Ageing, Shayne Neumann, announced the successful applicants:
- Ms Megan Plas, Donation Specialist Coordinator, DonateLife Victoria, and Ms Bridget O'Bree, Donation Specialist Nurse, Dandenong Hospital, who will be attending the 'Advanced International Training Course in Transplant Coordination' in Barcelona, Spain in November this year;
- Mr Heath Davies, a Tissue Bank Technician at the Donor Tissue Bank of Victoria, who will undertake a two part program: the 'International on-line Course on Tissue Banking, Cell Therapy and Regenerative Medicine', followed by the 'International Course on Tissue Banking, Advanced Therapies and Blood Banking' in Barcelona, Spain in 2014; and
- Mr Guy Vanderkelen, Donation Specialist Nursing Coordinator, DonateLife Tasmania, who will travel to Victoria to observe and participate as directed, in a Donation after Cardiac Death case.
Congratulations to the scholarship recipients.
