The organ and tissue sector has an exciting opportunity in February 2012 to raise public support for organ and tissue donation for transplantation to a new level by participating in DonateLife Week.

The dates for DonateLife Week in 2012 are Sunday 19 - Sunday 26 February. More information surrounding the week's events will be provided as soon as it becomes available.

Thanks to the ongoing support and participation of the sector, the week is established as having a dedicated focus to raise awareness of the need for organ and tissue donation, highlighting the success of transplantation and encouraging Australians to discuss donation, know each other's wishes and register their decision.

Upon establishment of the Organ and Tissue Authority, responsibility for leading the annual national awareness week for organ and tissue donation was transferred from the Department of Health and Ageing to the Authority. This responsibility includes setting dates and the theme each year, leading the sector in coordination of activities, and supporting the sector with materials, media and merchandise.

The national awareness week for organ and tissue donation in 2012 is Sunday 19 - Sunday 26 February and is called DonateLife Week.
