Minister for Aged Care and Minister for Indigenous Health, Ken Wyatt AM, has appointed four more members to the inaugural Australian Organ and Tissue Donation and Transplantation Board.

“Collectively, these appointments bring a wealth of knowledge and experience to the governance of Australian organ and tissue donation,” said the Minister.

“This is an important step forward in our program to reform this lifesaving and life-changing organisation.”

The newly appointed board members – Dr Marisa Herson, Margie Kruger, Professor Stephen Lynch AC, and Oren Klemich – have shown outstanding commitment to organ and tissue donation and transplantation, and bring with them a variety of skills.

“I welcome the new members and thank them for taking on these important roles,” Minister Wyatt said.

“The Turnbull Government is committed to improving access to organ and tissue transplantation for Australians through a nationally coordinated approach to increasing donation.”

Earlier this year, Minister Wyatt announced the appointment of Dr Mal Washer as Chair and Professor Carol Pollock as Deputy Chair of the Board.

I was also delighted that in August 2017, the new Chair, Dr Mal Washer announced the permanent appointment of the new CEO, Lucinda Barry who commenced in the role in September 2017.

The Australian Organ and Tissue Donation and Transplantation Board will strengthen oversight of the Australian Organ and Tissue Donation and Transplantation Authority, while focussing on lifting donation rates.

The creation of the Board was a recommendation of a review of the implementation of the national reform agenda on organ and tissue donation and transplantation, conducted by Ernst and Young.
