State Medical Director - Dr Dianne Stephens

Dr Dianne Stephens is the Northern Territory State Medical Director.

Dr Dianne Stephens completed her anaesthesia and intensive care training in Melbourne in 1997 and moved to Darwin in 1998 as the first Intensive Care Specialist in the Northern Territory.  Dr Stephens established the inaugural NT Organ Donation Agency in 2001 and has been the Medical Director of LifeNet NT from 2001 until the establishment of the new DonateLife network in July 2009.  She is a founding member of the AOTA Advisory Council and has worked as the NT Jurisdictional Representative on successive national committees driving reform in the organ donation sector for over 10 years.

Dr Stephens received the Medal of The Order of Australia (OAM) for her role in the ICU management of the 20 critically ill Bali bombing victims in 2002 and deployed with the RAAF as a reservist for 3 months to Iraq in 2005.  She was involved with the ADF response to the second Bali bombings in addition to caring for the victims at Royal Darwin Hospital.  

Dr Stephens was the RDH Medical Co-Director of Surgery and Critical Care overseeing Surgery, Anaesthesia, ICU and Emergency Departments at RDH from October 2007 to February 2010.  Her main interests are in improving organ donation knowledge in Indigenous communities, the critical care management of Indigenous people, management of disasters, trauma and sepsis and she has published widely in these areas.  Dr Stephens was awarded an Associate Professorship with Flinders University in April 2010.

State Agency Manager - Lee Wood

Lee Wood is the acting State Manager for DonateLife in the Northern Territory.

Ms Wood completed a Bachelor of Science at the University of Western Australia in 1994, with a double major in Exercise Science and Psychology.  

Prior to joining the NT organ donation agency in 2004, she worked in a variety of roles in both the Northern Territory and West Australian Departments of Health, including overseeing the WA Quit Campaign.  After working as the NT Donor Coordinator for 5 years, Ms Wood commenced in the Acting Manager's role in July 2009.

Ms Wood has represented the NT on a variety of national committees over the past 5 years.  She is the past Treasurer and current Secretary of the Australasian Transplant Coordinators Association (ATCA) and the current Chair of the State Manager’s Group.

The Northern Territory team includes one state hospital medical director, one manager, one organ donor coordinator, two senior organ donation nurses and one link nurse.
