DonateLife™ Network
As part of the national reform package for the organ and tissue donation and transplantation sector, all state and territory health ministers agreed to the establishment of a national network of organ and tissue donation agencies and to the employment of specialist hospital medical directors and senior nurses of organ and tissue donation.
Additionally, all jurisdictions agreed to employing state or territory medical directors charged with the responsibility of managing these staff in each jurisdiction with a goal of increasing organ and tissue donation for transplantation across Australia.
The responsibility for leading this group of dedicated health professionals rests with the National Medical Director who supports this team through a Community of Practice (CoP) Program. This community of health professionals, along with the staff of the Authority are the DonateLife™ Network, working together to improve access to life-saving transplantations for all Australians. The DonateLife™ Network will share information, build on existing knowledge, develop expertise and solve problems in a collaborative and supported manner.
The DonateLife™ Network will be supported in their work by the national CoP manager and will be provided with learning opportunities, tools to support their work and opportunities for information sharing. There will be an annual scientific meeting for all members of the DonateLife™ Network in March 2010 to provide an opportunity for the entire team to meet and share their learning and ideas.
The DonateLife™ Network will share information online through the donatelife web portal. The DonateLife™ web portal (password protected) will be the key communication tool for the DonateLife™ Network. The web portal offers access to the latest national and international news and research related to organ and tissue donation and also provides an online meeting point for the sharing of local tools and resources. It is also the means by which medical directors and nurses will enter hospital based, de-identified organ donation activity related data.
