The Australian Donor Awareness Program
The Australasian Donor Awareness Program (ADAPT) provides training and education to a range of clinical staff working in the organ and tissue donation sector. ADAPT is currently delivered in two modules as stand-alone one-day workshops. From 31 March 2010, ADAPT will be administered by the Organ and Tissue Authority.
Module 1 Workshops
Module 1 has been designed for health professionals involved in care and management of dying patients and their families, including those patients who may become potential organ and tissue donors; organ retrieval surgery and the organ and tissue donation process. Registered nurses from Critical Care, Emergency and Operating Theatres attend these workshops, along with social workers, chaplains and pastoral care workers who are involved in the support of families in critical care areas.
Module 2 Workshops
Module 2 has been designed for intensive care specialists and trainees, and provides a review of the organ and tissue donation process, and continuing education in how to communicate with, and care for, the families of dying patients and potential organ and tissue donors.
